FRED ROBERTS 07/05/1916 - 12/06/1985 In memory of Fred Roberts who passed away on June 12th 1985. Loving and lasting memories of our Dad, Taid and Great-Taid on the anniversary of his 100th birthday. Fred, or Freddie as he was frequently known, was born in Rhyl in May 1916. The younger son of Mr and Mrs John Roberts, he played football for Rhyl FC before signing for Bury FC in 1936. During the war he served with the Royal Welch Fusiliers as a corporal and acting sergeant PTI. As the football league was suspended during this time he guested for various teams including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Glentoran when serving in Northern Ireland. Post-war he returned to Bury and he ended his playing career at Leyton Orient. He married Nancy in Bangor in 1943 and they lived most of their married life in Rhyl where he continued his links with Rhyl FC as a player and manager. Fred worked for Rhuddlan Borough Council until his retirement in 1981 and then enjoyed more time playing golf at Rhyl Golf Club. We miss him greatly and know he would have taken great pride in seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and continue his love of sport. In loving memory, Judy, Hilary and families Mae d’eisiau di bob awr.
