Thomas James Williams
1924 - 2012 - A memorial service was held for Tom Williams on April 25th in Marbury Church following the cremation at Crewe. The service was taken by the Rev Stephen Walton and included contributions from Tom's sons and grandchildren.
Born at Cross Hill Farm in Marbury in 1924, Tom became synonymous with the village spending his life farming there as well as giving his time to support numerous village activities. He went to Marbury school before attending Whitchurch Grammar school. In 1952 he married Joyce at Acton Church and they moved into Cross Hill. Towards the end of the 1950's they moved to Townley Farm which would become home for the next 30 years for the family which now comprised 3 sons; Nigel, Graham and John. At various times Tom was chairman of the local NFU, Churchwarden and parish councillor amongst other roles he undertook in the community.
Following his retirement he moved with Joyce into Marbury village from where he gave much of his time to help win a succession of Best Kept Village awards. In addition to his farming connections he was also an active member of the local bowls, snooker and bridge circuits where he will be remembered for his sense of humour.
Joyce, Nigel, Graham and John and their families would like to thank everyone who attended the service along with all those who have written to them recalling their fond memories of Tom. In addition they would thank all those who
contributed towards the collection for Marbury Church and Wrenbury Surgery.
